Darling, remember? -
backpacking by Natural Bridge
the giggling streams, the scent of leaves
the beds of moss beneath juniper boughs
remember how we shouted together "I love you!"
to hear our voices blend in the echoes under the arch
we were afraid that our words
the most powerful in the world
might finally dislodge those stodgy old rocks
remember how we declared that our bond would endure
steadfastly until the end of the world?
darling,
I know you don't love me
I know you don't know me
time has robbed you of your memory
but darling, for both of us, I remember.
